S355J2+N is the most common high strength steel for construction that we sell. It is a non-alloy structural steel to EN10025-2 2004. With its increase yield strength of S355 MPa over other construction steels such as S275 and S235 it is an excellent choice for delivering critical components or major structural members. It is also the modern equivalent of the EN10025 1990 S355J2G3

We have one of the largest stocks of S355J2+N structural steel in Europe and use this for the benefit of our Asian Engineering  customers to offer a range of plates that have excellent chemical and physical properties, have thicknesses that are not available in Asia or to offer large volumes of plate quickly when project timescales are short.

Heavy S355J2+N Available Ex-Stock

We stock a full range of S355J2+N plate from 6 mm all the way up to very thick plates of 300 mm. Most of the thinner plates are from Duferco Clabecq or Thyssen, whilst the thicker plates are from Dillinger, the worlds best heavy plate mill.

Our focus is on the heavy S355J2+N – that is from 100 mm upwards. Whilst many steel stockholders focus on plates in the 6 mm to 40 mm ranges we have a large proportion of our total tonnage specialised in the thicker plates with consistent availability of plates at all thickness ranges from 100 mm up to 250 mm

Many Asian customers undertake projects where there are origin restrictions on the steel. Our steel is best for those projects where the end user has either specified a G7 origin for the steel, or has specified Western Europe, Japan and North America. There are also the many cases where Dillinger is listed on the Approved Mill List for the project.

In all these cases we are able to help projects as the wide range of S355J2+N that we hold in stock together with the quality allows projects to proceed quickly shortening delivery timescales. This can be especially critical when customers require heavy plates quickly. For these situations we hold one of the largest stocks globally of heavy S355J2+N plates.

Our experience is that most customers need a number of heavy S355J2+N plates rather than just one and so we stock with this in mind. We make sure that our stock levels of most thick plates in the range of 100 mm to 300 mm are sufficient to support multiple customers requiring a number of plates.

This is a significant benefit to procurement teams and QA engineers as they will often be able to buy multiple plates from the same heat making the approval process faster and easier. This is in contrast to having 6 100 mm plates all bought from different mills and arriving from different stockholders which is time consuming, expensive and risky.

S355 J2 +N plates come with either a 3.1 or 3.2 MTC to En10204. The difference is that the 3.2 plates have been independently verified by a third party inspector, usually Lloyds Register or DNV, whilst the 3.1 plates have been certified by the mill based on their  ISO 9001:2010 quality system.

Normally the yield values of Dillinger S355 J2 +N are very good and this is the consequence of the structural steel plates having exceptionally low sulphur and phosphorous. This, the result of Dillinger’s, two stage metallurgical process when making the steel. means that the microstructure of the steel is more homogeneous and as a consequence tougher and better able to resist the engineering forces that are applied to it. This is one reason why Dillinger S355J2+N plates were used in the Rhyll Flats wind farm in the UK

Large Availability of S355J2+N Plates

Stock levels are large, our overall stock is about 40,000 MT, and this means that we are able to support customers who require immediate large deliveries of S355 J2 + N on an ex-stock basis. 300 and 400 tonne ex-stock deliveries are not uncommon and we are able to, and have, delivered up to 1000 metric tonnes of structural steel plate to engineering companies in the offshore sector in Singapore.

It should be noted that delivering 1000 MT ex-stock means delivering to the port ready for loading, with any plate cutting require, within 10 working days of purchase order. Our 40,000 MT of steel stock is kept at Oosterhout in the Netherlands
