At Oakley Steel we deliver steel globally. Our average delivery distance is over 10,000km and can
take over a month depending on the location and availability of vessels. The complexity and importance of getting everything right
means that to us the shipping team is critical to our success.
Our customers are much more focused on delivery. As distance increases the cost of transport becomes a much larger proportion of the total procurement cost. Delivery risk also increases.
We recognise that much of our success is based around having a great shipping team who can deliver steel to the other side of the world smoothly and with no surprises.
Three things set the service you receive from Oakley Steel apart from our competitors:
We deliver steel AND shipping and so we put equal importance on our shipping service as on making sales; when we're shipping your steel around the world you can always expect us to be on top of things, keeping you informed and helping you find solutions for those difficult transportation problems.
We know what we’re doing; All of our steel goes a long way; that means we have a lot of experience in moving plate and our shipping service
are a lot more important to us than if only 5% of our steel was shipped overseas.
We care about your total costs; we recognise that for our customers the steel price is only part of the procurement cost. Added to that are shipping, customs and
import duties, bank charges and the costs of the procurement department, and worst any project delays due to the steel not being there at
the right time. We don’t charge a margin on our shipping costs – they are simply passed onto you with a small reserve for variable
costs. We can’t help with the customs fees – sorry – but we reduce bank charges by making sure that the documentation is
right, and reduce the costs of the procurement department by taking up as little of their time with problems as possible. Finally, we keep you
informed. If something goes wrong – we’ll tell you as soon as we know so that you can prepare contingency plans. Then we’ll put it right .
In this section of the website we provide a great deal of information about steel and shipping it worldwide. Firstly there is a section on steel with various pages on certification, packing, origin etc. Secondly there is a shipping section which gives more information on the shipping process – including documentation. Finally there is a small section for industry news, useful links and a glossary of steel terms.
