S960QL is a very high yield steel plate used for applications where mobile or fixed structures have to carry high loads – often in safety critical situations.
High strength steel plates like S960QL enable engineering companies to save significant weight in what they are building, whether it is a fixed or mobile structure, as far less S960QL is required in comparison to a normal structural steel such as S355J2+N

S960QL plates are available between 6 and 100 mm in a range of standard stock sizes.

S960QL is an alloyed structural steel that has been developed over recent decades to enable engineering structures to push the limits. It gets it strength from being quenched and tempered and you can read much more about the process of manufacturing high strength steels here
Benefits of S960QL High Yield Steels
One of the key benefits of high yield steels such as the Dillimax 965 is their ability to reduce the amount of steel required in the construction due to their higher strength. Whilst the price per tonne is higher the cost saving from using less steel as well as reduced welding and filler costs can be significant. The benefits are then further enhanced by the savings that can be seen in fuel costs for movable equipment
One of the reasons why Dillinger, the German mill whose plates we stock, is so popular in this grade is the very clean steelmaking and improved rolling process mean that the plates generally have very low carbon equivalent values compared with the standard requirements and are thus much easier to weld.
This means that whilst very high yield steel plates are difficult to weld, the Dillimax S960QL plates that we stock have better weldability than most equivalents and this translates into improved production efficiency and safety.
